About The Course

Congratulations on taking the first steps towards becoming a PGA professional.

We’re serious about education and we care about our students – who typically go on to be lifelong members of the PGA.

About the Qualifications

  • We will provide all the information that you’ll need but let’s start by covering the basics. We offer three courses:
  • Foundation Degree in Professional Golf - In association with the University of Birmingham
  • Applied Golf Management Studies - In association with the University of Birmingham
  • Diploma in Higher  Education in Professional Golf - In association with the University of the Highlands and Islands

Foundation degree in Professional Golf in conjunction with the University of Birmingham

What is the course called?

PGA Foundation Degree in  Professional Golf Studies.

When does the course start?

October 1. 

When is the closing date for applying?

August 31.

Is it full-time and do I need to attend university?

No and no – this is a parttime, distance-learning course.

What are the academic entry requirements?

The minimum academic entry criteria is four GCSEs at grades 4 to 9 (A to C pre2017) including Maths and English Language.

How much time will I need to spend on the courseevery week?

You should aim to spend nine to 10 hours per week on your course work.

How long does the course take to complete?

Three years.

How much does the course cost?

£4,250 per academic year for UK entrants and £5,500 for students from the rest of the world.

Will I be eligible for a student loan?

Is there an open day?

Yes– usually in June & August.

Applied Golf Management Studies  in conjunction with the University of Birmingham

What is the coursecalled?

AppliedGolfManagement Studies BSc (Hons)

When does the course start?

The academic year varies, but it  is usually towards the end of September.

When is the closing date for applying?

Usually around mid-January.

Is it full-time and do I need to attend university?

Yes. Lectures take place at the University of Birmingham’s Edgbaston campus as well as at The PGA National Training Academy at The Belfry.

What are the academic entry requirements?

You will need three A-levels with a typical offer of ABB.

How much time will I need to spend on the courseevery week?

You will be a full-time student.

How long does the course take to complete?

Three years.

How much does the course cost?

The University of Birmingham will charge the maximum approved tuition fee per year. The fees for your first year of study will therefore be £9,250.

Will I be eligible for a student loan?

Is it full-time and do I need to attend university?

No, it is part-time. You will study through a combination of face-toface, video conference, online, workshop and practical approaches to support your work-based learning.

What are the academic entry requirements?

Two Scottish Highers at grade C or above Alternatively, consideration will be given to applicants with four National 5 awards or equivalent (including English and Maths).

Howmuch time will I need to spend on the course?

You should aim to spend nine to 10 hours per week on your course work.

How long does the course take to complete?

Three years

How much does the course cost?

£1,250* per year for Scottish students, £4,250 per year for students from elsewhere in the UK (England,Wales and Northern Ireland).

* Plus £812.50 for additional PGA elements each year. International students will pay £5,500.

Will I be eligible for a student loan?

There are several funding sources, depending on where you come from. Residents of Scotland studying on undergraduate programmes in Scotland normally have their fees paid by the Students Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS). Learn more HERE
